Itinerary Day 1


Combine 2 major attractions with the 2 days Delphi-Meteora tour and visit two UNESCO heritage sites. Starting from Athens, we drive north, passing by the city of Thebes and Levadia. The agriculture campus of Thebes is rich from ancient times. On our way, we can also visit the monastery of Osios Loukas.


Founded in about 1011 AD, the monastery of Osios Loukas is dedicated to a local Greek holy man who endured much suffering at the hands of the Moors and Saracens and finally made his home in this remote area of central Greece. Rumors says that he was able to predict the future several times. This Monastery is the only one that has elements from Hagia Sophia in Konstantinople. The Monastery was used during the Greek liberation War as a fort and base from rebelion fighters.


After 2 hours drive approximately, we arrive at the village of Arahova. A popular winter ski destination, as it's very close from Athens. Arahova is a beautiful picturesque village with stone builded house, where the locals produce colorful carpets and several food products. Arriving to Delphi, we start to explore this amazing archaeological site.


According the legend, Zeus let 2 eagles from his hands to show him the center of the World, this eagles met in Delphi, then he throw a rock to pin it. You will visit Tholos temple as well as and the Gymnasium where athletes were trained, the Castalia spring where every visitor had to drink water first in ancient times.


2 Days Delphi-Meteora tour


Then you will see the temple of Apollo where Pythia was sitting on her tripod, chewing leaves and asking Apollo to answer the questions. All the answers of Pythia had a double-meaning and it was dificult to be understood. Nevertheless, the oracle of Delphi played major role in politics were most of the Greek city-states was considering it.


The theatre which still, is in good condition, the Stadium where Pythian games took place,it was the second most popular after Olympia. The treasury building of Athens which was builded from the same marble like Acropolis, Siphnians, Naxians, etc.


Inside the Delphi museum, you will admire the statue of Charioteer, the statue of 3 dancers, the Antinoos statue, the golden mask of Apollo, the huge statue of a Sphinx from Naxos, the friezes that describe famous themes from mythology such as the labours of Hercules and much more. After lunch and free time in the village of Delphi, we are continue our 2 days Delphi-Meteora tour. Late in the evening we arrive at Kastraki village for overnight.


Itinerary Day 2


In the morning after breakfast, we continue the 2 days Delphi-Meteora tour by 2 visiting some monasteries. Varlaam and Holy Triniti are the biggest and most interesting. From the 24 monasteries that were built , only 6 are operating in our days, differently every day. These remarkable rocks was created 60 million years ago in the Tertiary period. The first monks started to come in 11th century, St. Athanasius was the one that started to buid the first monastery.


Continuing the 2 days Delphi-Meteora tour, we will have lunch in the beautiful village of Kastraki or Kalambaka. On our way back to Athens we will visit Thermopylae to see where the epic battle of 300 Spartans against the Persians took place. You will see the battlefield, the statue of mighty king Leonidas as well you can watch a short movie of the details of the battle. Finally, we will drive back and reach Athens late in the evening.
