Athens Full Day Tour- Explore the City
The Athens full day private tour continues to the Acropolis where we can skip the line. A complex of buildings that includes the Parthenon (dedicated to Athena), the best example of classic architecture from the 5th-century BC, Erectheion (the temple with 6 Caryatides statues), the Temple of Athena Nike (Wingless Goddess), Propylaia (the entrance gate of the site), Odeon of Herodes Atticus, Dionysus theater(the first theatre of the world) and finally, the Mars Hill or Areios Pagos (the first ancient court and the place that St. Paul preached Christianity for the first time in Athens).
After the Persian wars, the Governor of the city Pericles concentrated the best architects, sculptors, and builders such as Iktinos, Kalikratis, and Fidias to work on these remarkable temples that were decorated according to mythological stories such as the battle of Athenians and Amazons- the battle between Gods and Titans, and the battle between Gods and Centaurus.
Our next archaeological site will be the temple of Olympian Zeus (the largest in Greece), the Panathenaic Stadium(the first Olympics), the Memorial of the Unknown Soldier, and the Changing of the Guards (Evzones) at Syntagma Square, the ancient Agora with its fabulous museum and the temple of Hephaestus (center of ancient Athens and marketplace).
Later on, we will stop at the Plaka area for strolling and shopping as well as for lunch in a Greek restaurant(free time). Then we will see Monastiraki and Athinas street, these are the most touristic areas of the city. You can always choose to visit the National Archaeological Museum or the Acropolis Museum during the tour or to change the itinerary. Finally, we will drive you back to your hotel, Athens Airport, or to the Piraeus cruise terminal.
